More thoughts on project #4

So I am having friends over tonight and I am going to give them each a word, well actually more than one each, and have them write the first sentence that comes to their mind with the word in it. I don't think I will have any problems putting this all together unless they just refuse to do it which I doubt they will. I'm curious to see where it will go from there because I have no idea what they are going to write, which makes it interesting for me. I will not edit their writing but only add between the lines to bring it all together. I am hoping it will morph into a story, something silly or lighthearted but it's not completely up to me and I am not going to prompt them into any kind of emotions. I am kinda excited to see what happens it could become so many things, I just hope I am right about it going smoothly once I get everyone together.

I think this is a really awesome idea, and it will be very interesting to see how you can bring it all together. It will be neat to see whether or not your friends are on similar wavelengths with their thought processes (which would allow for a cohesive narrative), or if they have completely opposite with their thought process (and yield something completely nonsensical maybe like Dr. Seuss). Either way, its a great idea.

This sounds like a cool idea - how many friends are you having over? It would be cool if you could get them all to collaborate not separately but together as well. I'm not sure how to describe this, but maybe after you give them a word and they write the sentence, then they take two words from their sentence and give it to someone else...I don't know. I guess this is only a suggestion if you wanted to make the project longer or more in-depth; I enjoy your idea as it stands. You may want to lengthen the metatext after you've had your meeting, but as it stands at the moment I had no problem understanding what you were doing with your project. Remember documentation! I'd say you meet the project requirements - good job -V

Depending on who your friends are, be ready to see some really whacky responses. I know if it were my friends, I probably would not be able to post what they have written. Anyway, you have a unique idea that really almost has a mind of its own. It will be interesting to see what comes from this!

Terri: So, association - sentence from a single word. Use email, so you can distribute this via the net and so you can get the responses in textual / cut and paste form. Fine, I think, to just post to total piece. Now, what is the source of the words you're giving them? For example, if it starts out as a poem or story, and they're associating based on individual words/phrases without seeing the whole, then in effect you're creating a google sonnet by using your friends as search engines. You're using your poem/story/source as the material to feed to your friends for associations...
